Introduction:Started in Essen, Germany after World War II, Aldi chose to offer the basic necessities for day-to-day living through its grocery stores.

Consolidating its business model under hard discounting in 1960s, Aldi with its two components - Aldi Sud and Aldi Nord, started expanding its operations.

By the early 21st century, Aldi had a global presence through its 7,000 stores, clocking revenue of $ 35 billion by the end of 2003.

The success of Aldi lay in its constant focus on its business model, which threatened the survival of the other established supermarkets.
